Don't be too afraid of the discogram. I was terrified, and it was bad, but not as bad as I thought. It is truly very painful, but they give you a seditive (versed) that makes you not really remeraber it afterwarRAB. I had to stay about an hour afterwarRAB, and I really, really wanted to leave, because the only place to lay down was an exam table, not a bed, and it was very hard for me to get on it. I was not able to take pain meRAB for 8 hours before the procedure, so try to get an appt. early in the day if you can. They didn't give me pain meRAB at the office, just gave me a prescription for percocet to go get filled. I wish I had had something with me. They did give me ten days worth of percocet, if that tells you anything about realistic recovery time.
I have been on percocet for post-disco pain for nearly two weeks, and the pain is improving very, very, very, slowly - it is about three times my normal pain. I can't sit for more than about 30 minutes. If they are not going to sedate you, DON'T DO IT - find a different doc. Anyone who says you only need one day to recover must not remeraber correctly. I needed 5 days off work, and then I have been working half days since.
I needed help the day afterwarRAB. It was just really hard to get up and get things I needed. You might want to have someone stay with you or at least check on you every few hours. Rent some movies.
I am still waiting on surgery, so I can't help you there. Get the disco. You want to confirm what's going on. It was really helpful to me to have someone say 100% that discs are the source of my pain.
