Hi, I hope someone may be able to help us here , we are worried....My son is 14 years old. About 4 days ago he compained about sudden heaviness on his chest and difficulty exhales when breathing. I took him to the ER ans they did a chest x-ray . They said he had ( markings ) and this was signs od pnommonia. He still had severe chest tightness & pressure so the next day I took him to his doctor. they did a new chest x-ray, this showed no signs of anything . He still was in pain, pressure 24/7 and felt like someone was holding a tight belt arounf his chest.

Today his was still very bad. We went to another ER and he had catscan with dye. It came back clear.

SO now there are 3 seperate diagnosis in just a few days and still no relief!!

We are all sooooo worried and my son keep saying he does not feel right. Is it possible this is all muscle realted ? and if so, what can we do so he can feel better ?

Thanks so much for your help

Has he received any treatments yet? Did they at least try a breathing treatment? Does he have a fever or coughing? Sinus problems or any other symptoms?

hello40; Does he have asthma? That could irritate that area. It could be muscle related too. I had a dislocated rib once that I had put back in place by a chiropractor because it was pushing into a chest muscle. Did he do any heavy lifting, twisting or anything out of the ordinary. It sounds strange that nothing's showing on the x-rays. Has he tried tylenol or pain meds? One last thought - has he recently tried cigarettes. You never know!

These symptoms can be caused by anxiety. At that age it is common yet usually not diagnosed as such until a must later age. I wouldn't rule this out unless his O2 stats have fallen below 90.

Possibly it could be pleursy, which is inflammation of the sacs around the lungs. See a pulmonary specialist asap, or if that's not possible, get a prescription for some Levaquin.

hello40: I was just reading on another post on the other main healthboards that someone had an injury from shoveling and it was called Costchondritis. Investigate that too.

If it was signs of pneumonia, was he put on any meds? Ask your son if he did anything different before this started, anything out of the ordinary, lifting, wrestling, anything with his upper body he doesn't normally do. This could be a problem with his ribs just needing to be adjusted, as they can go out of place, just like a back can.
