the apple and the banana? i really need this question answered please by this friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, assign variables:
1 apple costs 'a' pence
1 banana costs 'b' pence

3a + 2b = 54
2a + 1b = 33

I would use substitution to solve this system of equations.

2a + 1b = 33
1b = 33 - 2a

3a + 2(33-2a) = 54
3a + 66 - 4a = 54
-a + 66 = 54
-a = -12
a = 12

2(12) + 1b = 33
24 + b = 33
b = 9

Apples cost 12 pence
Bananas cost 9 pence
