Hi all! Haven't been on here in awhile. Had computer problems.
I'm having back and leg issues again. Had a ruptured disc (L3-L4) in march. Was operated on 3/17/10.Recovery was slow. Took 11 weeks to start feeling half-way better and then my leg pain got so much worse. I thought maybe I re-herniated my disc or something. Went back to my nuerosurgeon and had mri,cat-scan, xray's, milogram etc........ Said everything looked fine and that a nerve just acted up. He said it would calm down. That took 3 weeks. Then I was okay to go back to work. My work is not hard, just have to walk on concrete alot.
Well I thought I was doing fine until about the 12th of July. That's when my lower back starting hurting so bad. When I went down I could barely get up. Never had that before. Took muscle relaxers and advil. Iced my back some but it seem to get worse. It went from my lower back to my middle. At the L3-L4 that I had operated on in March. My back burns in pain when I get up from sitting. Then my leg started throbbing. Just like before. I went on sterioRAB and pain medicine the other day and started feeling better until I went off sterioRAB.
I have a doctor's appointment on monday. I'm trying to get a mri done so I can take the films with me. Don't know if my insurance will approve another mri this year or not. I've read so much on here about people re-herniated a disc and how easy it is to do that. My pain is the same if not more than what it was back at the beginning of the year. I don't know since I went and had all them tests done in june that came back as negative if my doctor will try to get me more tests. He might think I'm crazy. Believe me I'm not.
This board is so informative. Looking forward to hear and correspond with all of you. Best of health to all.

Has anyone had a 2nd discectomy in the same year after healing from the 1st one and giving the release to go back to work?

I worked 1 month and then my leg went nurab. My back started burning at the surgical site. Going back to my doctor on mon.

I had my mri done last thurs.nite and went to my nuerosurgeon this morning. The mri showed some changes at L3-L4 but he could not tell what changes they were. He ordered a mylegram :(for this friday. I said with the way my leg is hurting soooooooo bad, I was surprised the mri did not show another rupture. He was very emphatic and said just because the mri did not show does not mean something is not going on. It's so depressing, not finding answers. Is there anyone out there going through the same thing?

I had a microdiscectomy on 11/24/2010; things were going fine for a week. Slowly built my walking to an hour for that week (10min, 20min, etc). The next Thursday pain and nurabness returned and I could not walk except for short trips thru house. At my appointment w/ surgeon on Dec 7 was told I had probably overdone walking and just aggravated nerve. This is now my third day on steroiRAB and feeling better but still not back to the point where I was a few days after surgery. Pills run out after a week when I have another appt. I will keep posting on my other thread to let others know how I'm doing and what happens. I think this helps those who are thinking about the surgery and who have just started this journey.

I see know that this whole process is a balance between staying patient while at the same time remaining positive and focused on recovery despite setbacks. Everyone reacts differently but hopefully for the most of us we can get back to doing things we normally do w/o the pain! Even if it takes a 2nd micro.
