I thought the alternative ending was much better.

I don't know, but it looked to me as if that might have been the original ending, was considered too dark and changed to the happy, or at least happier, ending for Jim and the girls.

The alternative ending sat better with the tone of the rest of film as far as I was concerned. Having them all living in that pretty cottage was all rather chocolate boxey compared to the darkness of what had gone before.

I did think it was a good film though, quite tense and well played.
 
Not reallly my sort of film at all but i love it.
Very well filmed, written and in the most part acted.
Just shows that we can still make brilliant, intelligent films.
 
I remember watcing this a couple of years ago. I was really into it but the third act spoiled it for me. It went from being a Zombie thing to being about the girls avoiding getting raped by a bunch of squaddies. It went completely off theme and spoiled it a bit for me.

Having said that maybe I should watch it again as no-one else seems to have this complaint. I was really into it up until they reached the compound.
 
Sometimes directors are forced to change their original ending. The executives at Universal tried to make Terry Gilliam change the end of Brazil but he fought to keep his ending because without it the film just wouldn't have had the same impact or message. Same with Blade Runner, hence The Director's Cut version a few years after the original release.
Yes, I agree with that and I'm still thinking about it too (obviously, that's why I'm here! :)).

The reason I preferred the 'alternative' ending was that I didn't think it was likely Jim could survive being shot in the stomach at such close range or that Selena, tough as she was, would've been able to treat him successfully.

Of course, I had no problem with idea of blood spitting zombies roaming the streets. :D
 
I can see what you mean but I thought the compound part was done really well. I had a feeling when they got there that all was not going to be as safe as it seemed. Most of them had gone a bit doolally and I liked the way they showed the fine line between the squaddies and the zombies and, indeed, Jim when he attacked the guy to save Selena.
 
I watched it at the theatre when it came out and really enjoyed it.

I always held off buying the DVD as I was waiting for the Directors' cut - which will finally be coming out in April.

28 Weeks Later sounRAB not so good as it will be full of yanks in it...
 
:) Now you see that's the bit that I found most disturbing, sitting there thinking "Poor monkeys". :rolleyes: What can I say, I'm a softie for the animals.

Just looked on the IMDb and it says of 28 Weeks Later:

"Britain has been emptied. There's nobody there. It's completely dead. And six months later the Americans arrive to reboot it back up again. But, of course, something goes wrong... "

They must be using Windows then.
 
there's a Director's Cut coming :D good thing i didn't buy that cheap copy in Co-op now :rolleyes:
then again will the Director's Cut be coming out on HD-DVD/Blu-ray, might it be worth waiting a tad longer?
 
I used to love it.

Seen it at the cinema and saw it on DVD, but every time I watch it, I'm put off by the young girls acting ability.

Still a great film, though...
 
Was becoming a good film... Until they reached that castle (its been a while since I've seen it, but I think it was a castle).

Went downhill from there.
 
Just watched this on Channel 4.

Really enjoyed it. I must watch the sequel. I believe I heard something about a third being made too.

Was the alternative ending actually at the end of the credits in the cinema release? Or did Channel 4 add it on?
