I believe you can use a site like this to unshorten a URL: http://unfwd4.me/

But yes, I agree, shortened URLs serve no purpose on any service that doesn't have highly restricted post lengths like Twitter. It only serves to hide malicious URLs, and I question why anyone would go to the effort of shortening it for a forum.
