maybe because the water was to warm?
they where mickey platy fish
we didnt use any chemicals
we just cleaned the green stuff with a toothbrush and thats it.
we put them back and one by one they started dying.
when we got back we saw the babys dead and sucked by the filter

First, If you are going to clean the tank do it the natural way, by buying some snails or Bristlnose catfish. Secondly did you take them out the tank empty all the water then put them back in?. Had you sterilised the toothbrush? Just try avoid doing these things and you'll have no problems and remember get a bristlenose catfish, then there is no trouble with algae in the first place.

This happened to me once but yes, the water was either to warm or to cold. Fish are like that. They probably went into a shock. If that isn't the case, than you may have put the fish back in the tank to soon. The water needs to age for about 1hr. Still you could have gotten a disinfectent or soap in the tank too. It could be a matter of things, but it was probably shock that killed your fish.

If you placed the fishes back directly into the water right after you changed the water, they could have died due to a sudden change in water temperature.

Or they could have died because you failed to completely remove the cleaning chemicals from the side of the tank.
