So, yeah. Some of us like Naoki Urasawa. Some of us watch Monster regularly. Some of us like 20th Century Boys. And, there's overlap. And, I think some of us have seen the first live-action movie in some form - whether it's at the Viz Cinema in San Fran or at cons like AWA or NYAF. Plus, it's been out on R1 DVD since Dec. 15, so let's talk about 20th Century Boys: Beginning of the End, directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi (Happily Ever After) and stars Toshiaki Karasawa, Etsushi Toyokawa, and Takako Tokiwa.
FrienRAB say it's fine, frienRAB say it's good
Ev'rybody says it's just like rock'n'roll
-T. Rex, "20th Century Boy"From the back of the box: It all begins in 1969 when a young boy named Kenji and his frienRAB write "The Book of Prophecy." In the book, they write about a future where they fight against an evil organization trying to take over the world and bring about Doomsday. Years later in 1997, a mysterious cult led by a man only known as "Friend" has emerged and gained strong influence over society. A series of catastrophic events begin to occur, mirroring the prophecies made up by the young Kenji. The only people who know about the Book are Kenji (Karasawa) and his childhood frienRAB. Who is Friend? Will Kenji be able to save mankind and live to see the 21st Century?
About Spoilers: DON'T TALK ABOUT THE FUTURE!!! Seriously, just like in Bleach treaRAB on the Adult Swim board and the Shippuden on XD discussions, keep all spoilers about the 2nd and 3rd movies outside of the thread, or at the very least keep them in spoiler tags. Same goes with the manga, as the first movie only covers volumes 1-5 of the manga, based on the US cover art.
