2012 - Wrong message?? (Spoiler)

I watched it and really enjoyed the movie. Great action scenes, truly terrifying effects.

I couldn't shake off a nasty message it sent out. Basically you can survive the end of the world if you are stinking rich. Not just normal rich, but rich enough to pay 1 billion euros for a seat on an ark.

Its good to know that when humanity is almost extinct. Brave and noble billionaires will be the ones to lead mankind into the future. :rolleyes:
 
I think that message rings true.

Can you honestly say that any government wouldn't go with a plan to make the most money from a bad situation. I think if anything the message it sent out was very well portrayed to be fair, it was implied it shouldn't happen and it wasn't right but it will happen.

It's incredibly naive to think that the world is rosy and everything will be based on the right decision. Money talks!!!!
 
That's what I'd have thought. Surely, if all the banks were destroyed, you wouldn't be a billionaire anymore. It's not like anyone has a bilionaire's fortune in gold bullion (and it's not like that wouldn't sink a boat very quickly if someone brought it on board!)

Besides, what use would it be anyway? I'll buy that patch of destoryed planet with no useful value off you!

It wouldn't be the rich that survived - it would be the ruthless. Admittedly, that may be the same thing, though!
 
The point was made that they needed the cash upfront to build the arks. It would have cost billions, if not trillions, to finance. Amounts like that disappearing from public funRAB would bound to be noticed by someone.
 
not really, but I would have thought they might have made a point of saying they saved intellectuals, craftmen, etc.

From this film the world will be populated by the super rich good for nothings who have servants to wipe their arses. LOL

Imagine them starting again on Africa.....that is a sequel in itself. :D
 
Money makes the world go round unfortunately but what can you do...even though, if I remember correctly, the big guy who took over on the arc towarRAB the end, I'm sure he said they had no intention of taking the filthy, rich individuals, correct me if im wrong....so most likely they were using the rich perhaps?...I think the message was regardless of how much money we may have, or what class we are, we need to work together if such a disaster occured as well the message posted by the OP

...the film was very enjoyable and some great action sequences that kept me on the edge of my seat, never a dull moment in it...if they worked on the story aswell it would have been a even better movie!...anyhoo, the film did make me think, what if such large disasters were to happen of this magnitude! xo
 
Given the timescale, if the government needed more money, they woud have simply printed off all they needed, by the time the market started to be affected by the extra cash, civilisation would be at an end anyway.
