The 2-minute version:

Jackson: "Get the plane up in the air, Gordon"
Gordon: "I can't take off, Jackson, there's a bit of volcanic ash about"'
All:"AARRGGH!"

The end.

Yeah, I'd give it 8/10. It's a great piece of family entertainment, but has a load of schmaltzy nonsense and overbearing cliches which drive me mad. The special FX are definitely the best thing I've seen in a disaster movie, and it begs the question - where does Roland Emmerich go next once he's blown up the world? :)

He could blow up the universe. :)

I'd also like to see an end of the world film where, it is actually the end of the world, not a decimation. Everytime we get an end of the world film we're promised total destruction, the end of all things etc etc.

Yea I know, I'm so grim, but just once I'd like to see something different. If he wants to blow up the world, I just want him to finish the job :):D

True, but it rings true more for audiences if you watch buildings crash into each other while a plane just scrapes through, rather than Kang and Kodos arguing in the middle of it all.

Well, it's always destined for an American audience so they have to have a happy ending. Perhaps if they set it oop North, where things are expected to be depressing, then just as the final strike comes to destroy the Earth, the last man alive would declare, "Aye, 'appen!" and up it goes!

Loved it...

Apart from the
indestructable
dog and his less than
indestructable
owner.

Can't understand how the compartment she's in fills with more water than the compartments either side of it... especially as the one with Jackson - etc in, is the one where the water is coming from.

No but i'm still convinced we get the planet still standing right at the end of the day? :D Or am i wrong lol

What I'm asking for probably isn't going to happen or is even feasible but it would be nice to be sold an end of the world film, and actually get it. :)

Yes, I've seen that one. Great stuff, but...

(don't worry, this isn't a plot spoiler)

...I was mad part of the way through when the main character used the latest generation TiVo in his front room, while we still have the first generation one (until Virgin's collaboration kicks in, hopefully later this year). For anyone who has a Sky+ and doesn't know what a TiVo is, it's something that would pee all over the Sky+ from a great height and the Sky+ isn't fit to lick its own SCART socket.

If you'd seen what he had...

That said, over in Japan they have boxes that can record multiple HD channels by the bucketload and can no doubt make the tea and file your nails at the same time ;)
