Read a couple of days ago about the "power pack"...this consists of a 103 motor, security alarm and ABS according to the review in HOG magazine. Of course, being the propaganda machine of HD....all is roses...lol
I decide to go by the dealer today and ask some questions about the power pack...i.e. how much boost on the torque and whether the cam was upgraded from the stock 96. Got my answers...claimed 10+ percent increase in torque and no change in the cam.
I have been waiting to trade my 2009 FLHX to get another 2010 with ABS. But, the dealer just happened to have a 2011 FLHX with the power pac. I liked the color, and in addition to the power pac, the bike had the cruise control. 2011 they changed the exhaust back to a dual vs 2 into 1 and dropped an 18 inch wheel on the front.
Can you feel the power difference. In a word yes....did my little break in of max throttle on acceleration for the first 20 miles. Pulled over on the interstate a few miles from the dealer. Pull out when the traffic cleared and nailed the throttle with the clutch fully engaged and doing approximately 2-3 mph. The bike dam near pulled the front wheel off the ground....it did fully extend the forks.
How does the bike ride? I absolutely hated the stock shock on the 2009...they were the absolute worst shocks I have ever experienced on any bike. 2011...HD got it right...good rebound/compression dampening...bike can take the bumps w/o knocking you out of the seat...lol. Bike does sit higher than my 2009....at least if feels that way with the same seat that I was using on the 2009. I had the dealer take off the 2011 stock seat and put the RG seat on the bike from my 2009.
The bike runs well....pulls strong even with the stock AC and mufflers and a darn catalyc converter. Well, we will see what happens with a new AC and no cat....lol.
My recommendation: If you are looking for a new bike and like the cost of the power pack options....get one. The power pack is worth the money...cheaper than buying bike with security option and ABS and having the dealer or other mechanic put jugs and pistons on the bike. From the factory...the 103 comes with the automatic compression releases...that would be extra on any install of a 103 kit.
Been through a 2007 FLHX, 2008 FHLR, 2009 FLHX and now the 2011 FLHX. This bike I like as it is...although I did add a bell and rush mufflers. By the way....the got one hell of a sound at cruise or WOT and sell for a decent price.
