2010 Ultra Limited question.

I think the 54 mpg is at 45 mph downhill with a tailwind. I was getting 36 to 40 around town, 38 to 42 freeway on average when mine was bone stock (first 1k miles). Maybe you're getting used to the big bike and pushing it around with a bit more authority?

If it's your first Harley, you will hear more engine noise. Sometimes you do need to work with other dealers, or other persons within the same dealership. Probably the most important thing to do is relax and ride!

Spiderpig, yes you are close. A little less than that and why I went to this dealer 60 miles away. The sales price was very good compared to a couple closer dealers. I will give them the benefit of one more try and like some have mentioned now, would like to have someone take a look at it under warrantee. May not turn out to be a big concern but just several things adding together had me concerned. Sound, loss of fuel range, and just not as smooth as it was.* My comment to him was is it possible that the oxy sensor is bad making the fuel management think it is lean pumping extra fuel? Seems it would not take long to stick a sniffer probe in the exhaust to see if things are out of spec.
Sweet Jewell, My thought there is the first 1000 miles were in July and things were fine.* Thanks for the suggestion though.
Spur56, thanks. You are exactly correct. This is my 8th bike. Been riding street off and on for 28 years* now. The last 10 pretty good amount, but this is my first Harley.
Strtarrow and Deuces R wild, I have not mention the dealer, yet. I will give them a chance to do right. If this next visit with an appointment does not gain any satisfaction, the gloves are off. The sales staff was very friendly and helpful. Yes they wanted to sell a bike, but I felt they went above and beyond for me without being pushy. Hope the service staff can turn things around and do the same. I will give them one more chance.
Thanks everyone for the input. This is a great place to get some experienced opinions. Hopefully I can return the favor sometime.
Jeff

Flintshooter, It really sounds to me that something is broken, and is about to get worse.

If all was well at 1K service and it started going south after that, something is giving up.
As for the dealer issue go straing to the owner, and service manager, state the facts, and if they give you the smoke and mirror treatment then kindly tell the owner thanks and go to another dealer.

That bike has a 2-year unlimited warranty so surely another dealer would like to have your business than the selling dealer.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that you keep us posted with the way this turns out.

the motor will sound like a singer sewing machine assuming you check all your oil levels take a long screwdriver and hold the handle end to your ear and touch various parts of the side of the motor while running and see if you hear slapping of parts check your exhaust gasket bolts, spark plugs or just find a better dealer and have them take it for a ride.you should be shifting around 3000 or 3200 rpms.remember more fuel is cooler
my 2 cents hope you get it fingered out....or if the dealer says it's ok then ride it like you stole within the warentee then if something lets go it covered

Try another dealer. They should not be threatening to charge you for this...even if it is in your head. They should at least be able to ask you to drive it around and spend 30 seconds listening to it. If they feel the need to run a service on it they will admit the patient. If it sounds normal to them you are on your way. Its that simple.

I went to my dealer last weekend because my new pipes were discoloring. I told them it may be running too rich/hot. They brought it in and checked it out. Said all is normal and must be a defect with headers. No charge.

Thats what it takes to keep customers.

If your dealer will not help you try another.
I don't understand why some dealers do not want to deal with warranty issues.
They are paid by the MOCO aren't they?

Sorry to hear about your problems. Hopefully you will find a dealer that can and will help without hassle. I bought my Limited the same day as you and have about the same miles (2800). Although I have not experienced any engine noises I have never gooten better than 38 mpg. I just got back from 700 mile round trip to the gulf with mostly Hwy and could do no better than that ad the bike is bone stock. My RKC would get as high as 45 mpg.

Good luck on getting you problems solved.

A couple of questions first--- Does the bike have any type of tunig device- stage 1?
Possibly a tuning issue if so. Are you running synthetic oil? This will definitely make the engine louder. If the vibration gets worse- the crank runout should be checked.
