2010: The Year We Make Contact. Still good after twenty years.

I have just watched this for the first time in about twenty years. I must say it was very good and the FX have not aged badly at all.

Good film, but let down, IMO, by the fact that the politics are very pre-collapse of Soviet Union and takes the Central America situation that existed at the time of production as still existing in 2010.

IIRC, these aspects were not in Arthur C Clarke's novel.

The late (, and for me at least, great) Roy Scheider makes that particular film for me. The politics are of course somewhat dated now, but I do enjoy the film. On the plus side at least it's a bit more accessible than 2001.

still a beautiful film, i still catch it on TCM now and again .....
