2010 Oscars (March 7th): Who Do You Think Will Take Home The Gold?

i'm not happy at all that Avatar got major nominations. But other than that i'm fairly happy.

I'm pretty happy with the winners---especially cuz I haven't seen that many of the nominated movies like I normally do.

I love Sandra and it's the one time where I don't care if the performance or the movie was actually award worthy or not..I love her.

Right now:
Best Movie: Hurt Locker or Blind Side
Best Actress: Sandra Bullock
Best Actor: Morgan Freeman
Best Director: James Cameron
Animated film: Up

The Oscars last night were beyond boring. The past few years they have tried to avoid predictability by bumping up the air date, but because of the Olympics they were back to being in March(after all other awards shows have aired).

IMO expanding the Best Picture category to 10 was just optics and made no difference at all. It's still the same people voting year after year. I do not know what the voting results were, but I'm guessing that Avatar, District 9, The Blind Side and Up never had a chance because they are still viewed as "box-office" or "popcorn flicks".

Nice to see Up win a pair of Oscars. :)

Despite what the Hollywood media would have us believe, I really think James knew his film was a longshot. People like to compare the success of Avatar with Titanic...but they ignore one major difference. Namely, that Avatar is SciFi/Fantasy. And let's be honest, The Academy does not hold SciFi/Fantasy(or Horror) in high regard. The Wizard of Oz, It's A Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, Marry Poppins, Star Wars, A Clockwork Orange, Jaws, The Exorcist, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Beauty & The Beast, Babe, Field of Dreams. Yup...all losers. Yet they have all stood the test of time and become classics and pop culture faves. Personlly, I do not mind if Avatar or Up ends up in that class. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King seems to be the only recent genre film that had the good fortune of winning Best Picture, but only after the first 2 films had already lost.

The ceremony was boring as hell.

I'm happy that Cristoph Waltz won, it was the only category I really rooted for this year (well besides documentary, I was rooting for the rabbit doc). I was also glad that THL won, it's a good movie.

Avatar didn't really have a chance because lets be honest if it wasn't for the special effects it would be a pretty ordinary movie.

My reactions:

1. CHRISTOPH WALTZ YEEEEEEEEES!!!!!! I hope he sweeps off these award shows ahh! I feel he got this one too. :D

2. I love love love Blindside but I just don't think it's Best Picture worthy. I'd give the spot to 500 Days of Summer or Star Trek.

3. Happy with the District 9 nomination.

4. I am also happy that Sherlock Holmes and Up got nominated for Score. The Score for these films are fantastic.

5. And I hope The Hurt Locker wins against Avatar.

UP, my god. How I love this movie that could be insane  Even listening the OST :bawl: HOW BEAUTIFUL IS. Thank u, Michael Giachino and Pixar.

I am so happy that Avatar didn't get all the Oscars they had said... because there were a lot of great movies there better
Also the Visual effects is well-deserved :)

I don't know what thinking about the Sandra's Oscar. I never saw a great movie from her (I have to see this one), so

I'm sooo behind in my movie watching....Hopefully I'll be able to catch a few more of these before the awards get handed out.

Happy for Bigelow and I hope she wins!

I'm also happy for Bullock and I actually hope she wins (I haven't seen her movie though---I just love her)

didn't know that it was nominated for Best Picture, should have won that as well ;)

 for Kathryn Bigelow and 'Hurt Locker' winning Big over the Smurf Movie :D  and also  for 'Up' winning Best Animations, love that movie

Overall though, it was predictable and boring just like every other year..

 You read my mind! I was up at 5:30 watching the nominations and when Jeremy Renner was announced, I was so freaking happy. I was slapping my boyfriends arm :rotfl: And we both had the same reaction to The Blind Side. I jumped on facebook immediately and started bitching.

this. I was hoping Quentin will get at least soemthing but Im very glad Avatar didnt won teh 2 big cathegories. havent seen the show yet and Im looking forward to it though from what I read it sounded kinda boring.

I am beyond thrilled that The Hurt Locker won the big award and that Kathryn won for direction. Such a brilliant, raw film with really amazing performances.

I haven't seen The Blind Side, so I don't know if Sandra necessarily deserved the win, but I adore her and thought her speech was so genuine. I also really enjoyed Jeff's speech.

Random: The PA spoof had me dying. Hilarious.

Did anyone here ever see the third Naked Gun movie? There's a scene towards the end where Drebin (Leslie Nielsen), who's looking for a bomb sealed in one of the envelopes, opens up the Best Picture envelope and yells that "it's the bomb!" After he does that, we see one group of nominees jump up and head to the stage to collect their award. That reminded me of tonight, not so much in that The Hurt Locker was a box office bomb so to speak, but I doubt any other BP winner comes close in terms of how few people actually saw the movie. All across the country tonight, I'm sure there were people going The Hurt What???

While I wasn't that surprised to see it win the big awards (figured it was a two-horse race for BP), I was surprised to see The Hurt Locker do as good as it did in some of the lower down tech awards, especially the sound awards. And its screenplay win surprised me almost as much Up in the Air losing in the Adapted category. It really shouldn't have won that one, either, Inglourious Basterds would have been the better pick.

Elsewhere, I thought Martin and Baldwin (loved the jerk, Damn/Damn lines as well as the PA parody) were good but the show in general was pretty awful. I didn't like the lead actor "presentations," (didn't like them last year, either) and the dance thing and horror montage were awful. The show was horribly paced, too. Oh and who can forget the Kanye West moment by that Docu-Short winner? I also kind of hated that they brought Streisand in to present Best Director. It almost made me cheer for Cameron to pull the upset.

I was okay with the winners that I've seen and I liked the speeches by both Bridges and Bullock, as well as Bigelow. I also liked that Sandy Powell, who won the Best Costume Design award for yet another period piece, brought up the costume designers for modern set films, who never seem to get acknowledged. Oh and the guy who won the Score award for Up had a great speech.

The show in general was a disappointment but I was in tears when Kathryn won! YAY vagina!

And also...Kristen Stewart hacking all over Taylor Lautner had me on the floor rolling :rotfl:

Oh, I forgot to say, Neil Patrick Harris' opening musical number was the best part of the awards, for me - as well as the John Hughes tribute.

All i really want is Mo to get Supporting Actress. And either Sandra or Gabby for Lead Actress

i'm surprised "I See You" from Avatar didn't get nominated for Best Song. I wanted it nominated because it meant Leona would be singing on the show. I don't get how they nominated "Almost There" over it o.O I usually love songs from Disney soundtracks, but I consider Almost There to be like the worst Princess song, even though i love the movie and love Anika's voice

Im happy to see Jeremy Renner nominated! Im rooting for him :) And Kathryn Bigelow for director :) I really hope she pulls it off and takes the prize..esp over Cameron

The Blind Side up for best pic? uhmmm....
