Ok it's May the first which is of course the first day of the fifth month in the year.

So looking back at the movies released from 1st January to 30th April.

Which films have blown you away?
Which have lived up to anticipation?
Which have disappointed?
Which are the turkey films so far this year?

The first film I'll throw into the mix is... How to train your dragon for one of the best so far.
I had never heard of the film or the books so the first I knew of it was the trailers. Purely watching the tailer i could see that the film looked good and had a lot of potential.

IMO it pushed the level of animated films to a higher level. I know this is going to open up the HOTAD/Avatar debate but I exclude Avatar as it's an live action/animation film so a different genre.
As I'm sure you've guessed by now I'm not a fan of 3D but think it did work really well in this film. Putting that aside I think the quality of the drawing itself, the coulour pallete and the general animation was top par.
The storyline, whilst not complex worked. There were too many characters, bit despite that the film never seemd jumbled or even worse seemed to drag.

Still to come this year is Shrek 4 and Toy Story 3, I think come thee end of the year this film will more than holRAB it's own against them. If anything it could makee them look quite simplistic. The detail of the viking's armour, builings etc was so intricate compared to a character like Woody or Shrek. You could be looking at this film surpassing them in quality visually.
As a film I hadn't heard of or had expectations of it really hit me as a cracker of a film that kiRAB will be watching for years to come.
