$15,956 2009 Honda Fit Sport with Navigation (34,225 miles)
$15,998 2009 Honda Fit (23,000 miles)
$12,950 2010 Toyota Matrix (39,120 miles)
$13,599 2010 Toyota Matrix (44.000 miles)

All of them are the base model except for the first, which is the sport version with the navigation system. I don't particularly care for the navigation, so it's not a factor for me as I prefer a portable GPS system. I will mostly be driving city miles with a bit of highway here and there, but the highway is practically city mileage because of stop and go traffic. Looking at the epa mpg, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the two, so I was hoping to get a few real world numbers here. Also, the matrix's rear view poses a large threat (since Toyota decided to get rid of that little side view window) when I want to change lanes. Any thoughts on that from actual matrix owners? I'm 5'2'' and 118 lbs, so I should fit into either car comfortably, but my boyfriend is 6'3'' and 340 lbs. Is the cabin narrow in either car? I'm going to have this car until it dies, so I would like to make the most of my purchase. It's a difference of having car payments for 4 years or 6. All prices are no haggle, so what I posted is what I'll be paying. Also, I've decided on these two models because I like hatchbacks and their cargo versatility. It looks like the fit wins in that category because of its Magic Seat and the fact that the rear seats will fold completely flat with the front seats pushed all the way back.

Also, has anyone ever purchased a car from Hertz Rental. That first Toyota Matrix is from there and I just wanted to know any experience you've had with them.

The same for the 2nd Honda Fit and the 2nd Toyota Matrix. They're both from Carmax. Has anyone had any experience with them?

This is going to be my first car I've ever owned, so I also want to know about the maintenance and repairs for both vehicles. How is it and what should I expect to pay per year?
