2009 Ford Escape or 2009 Subaru Forester?

I need help choosing which one would be a better choice. I want a car that is very reliable, and requires little maintenance. I like the Ford Escape interior because it looks more luxurious. But, I also know that the Subaru Forester is a very good car, not because of the AWD, but because it is symmetrical weight. I also like some of the other features, and the seats are VERY comfortable. I also like that the Subaru has minimal road noise, even when driving on the freeway! How about the 09' Ford Escape??? Which one is more reliable, and which one do you think is the best car/suv overall?
 
First of all buy American. I've driven both Subaru and Fords, I kind of like the Ford more, but the Subaru was about 8 years older. Especially now, you can probably get a significantly better deal from American companies than foreign ones. Go into the dealership and tell them you're thinking of buying a Subaru, and they'll come up with a bunch of reasons not to (if they're good salesmen) and tell them it's about the price. They'll do whatever they can to talk you into buying their cars, possibly including lowering the price.
