Welcome to our world! I know you will enjoy the ride.
I had been actively looking for a couple of years, and put my hand on more than a few. One day I decided to check Craigslist, and what do I find, but a three and a half year old 06' with twelve thousand on the clock. It was one of the cleanest used bikes I had seen. I have put nearly that many miles on it in the nine and a half months of my ownership.
As I was thinking, such a late model ride shouldn't need much in the way of service. But I was replacing the kickstand spring from running off a curb, the second day I had it. Lol
The only other issue I had was from the PO's changing windshields and pulling one of the screws opposite receiving ends out of the back side of the fairing. it gave me no problem till just the other day. As I was trying to think of how to glue it in without filling the threads with glue, it came upon me to just use my soldering gun to heat it up in position so the plastic would melt around it securing it in place. (-:
Oh what a relief to see it holding up so well after this repair. I am once again a happy camper!
I've called it my blank slate, and will continue to upgrade as I find the parts I like. The electronic cruise would be a nice addition, but it's just something else to go wrong.
If you would like to do WWW's and like laced wheels, find a set of sixteens and go for it. The PO had already done this to mine along with diamond plate floorboards, highway pegs, shifter ends and brake peddle. He also replaced the turns with smoked lenses and I followed suite with a smoked tail light. I think it's coming along rather nicely!
All I have left to add is, if you can do any of the services yourself, you will save a but/boat load of flow for other goodies, the first of which should be a manual.
Enjoy the ride and keep up though this rather worldly forum.
