Congrats on the new ride...hope it'll give you the giggles like my '03 does for me. As the others have said, the beauty of a Standard is it's simplicity...now make it your own. Ride safe.

The easiest (for me anyway) to lower my 08 EG standard was to buy the StreetGlide shocks. I am 5'7" and can be flat footed at stop lights. There are definately more expensive and nicer hydraulics and the like but this I felt comfortable doing myself.

Good Luck and welcome, hope you enjoy the new bikes.

I just joined the Standard crowd. Just traded my 96 EGC in for an 04 EGS. Not much difference in the look once I add my little touches. Nice bike, has more pickup, and it came with cruise, radio and detachable rack. I will miss the tour pak but I like the racks better.

Took the bra off already and plan on replacing the console and putting a solo seat on. The list just keeps growing.

Welcome to our world! I know you will enjoy the ride.
I had been actively looking for a couple of years, and put my hand on more than a few. One day I decided to check Craigslist, and what do I find, but a three and a half year old 06' with twelve thousand on the clock. It was one of the cleanest used bikes I had seen. I have put nearly that many miles on it in the nine and a half months of my ownership.
As I was thinking, such a late model ride shouldn't need much in the way of service. But I was replacing the kickstand spring from running off a curb, the second day I had it. Lol
The only other issue I had was from the PO's changing windshields and pulling one of the screws opposite receiving ends out of the back side of the fairing. it gave me no problem till just the other day. As I was trying to think of how to glue it in without filling the threads with glue, it came upon me to just use my soldering gun to heat it up in position so the plastic would melt around it securing it in place. (-:
Oh what a relief to see it holding up so well after this repair. I am once again a happy camper!
I've called it my blank slate, and will continue to upgrade as I find the parts I like. The electronic cruise would be a nice addition, but it's just something else to go wrong.
If you would like to do WWW's and like laced wheels, find a set of sixteens and go for it. The PO had already done this to mine along with diamond plate floorboards, highway pegs, shifter ends and brake peddle. He also replaced the turns with smoked lenses and I followed suite with a smoked tail light. I think it's coming along rather nicely!
All I have left to add is, if you can do any of the services yourself, you will save a but/boat load of flow for other goodies, the first of which should be a manual.
Enjoy the ride and keep up though this rather worldly forum.

Welcome to the forum! It's a great place to hang around, read & learn and if need be, ask questions.

The EGS is very versatile and can be any bike you want to make it. Just add chrome, racks, paint etc.

Personally, I'm a fan of the EGC. I like having the Tour-Pak when need be, but I always take it off when riding solo. (detachable) The UC has more stuff than I need or would use. Just MY opinion.

Ride safe & have fun!

I didnt like the 28 spoke wheels. It had laced wheels with it. Not bad. Easier to put air in tires. I live south of portland near oregon city. I love florence for quadding

Dropped my 04 Standard 1 inch with Progressive shocks, works great no problems with scraping or ride quality. With either my Danny Gray seat or Corbin it sits at a good height, not to low. Also lowered the front 1 inch with the Harley kit but their are better options now for that than in 04.
