2009 air shocks

I have a 2009 Ultra and ride with my wife occasionally. this requires me to adjust the air pressure in the shocks from 25 psi to 40+ psi when I switch from 1-up to 2-up. The last 2 times I let the air out of the shocks a slug of oil shot out on me and my saddle bag.
I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this and could this indicate the shock is failing?
 
I believe you are supposed to pump a little air into the shocks before you let any air out in case there is any oil in the air lines.
 
get rid of those crappy shocks, get a set of Progressive 440's, when you are going to ride 2 up or 2 up with a fully packed bike, or 1 up with weight, just dial in some more spring pre load.

No more stupid pumps.
 
Yes, the manual actuall advises to add air before releasing air from the shocks because oil will come out.

As far as air pressure, I have the shorter shocks on the rear and ride a lot 2 up and pulling a trailer. I leave them at 55psi and have no issues with bottoming out.
I don't bother lowering the air pressure for 1 up...............I'M TOO LAZY.
 
I use to think like you did...spent mega bucks on numerous shock combinations...then finally found one that works the best overall...those crappy shocks...go figure....
 
Damn.........usually I'm pretty good at reading the manual. Guess I'd best re-read it when I get home.

I've had them at 55 for 10,000 miles and check them fairly regularly. The never loose air either.

Anyway, I'll check it out and thanks for mentioning it.
