2008 Toyota Corolla S oil change has some metal particles in it. Is this normal?

A couple of months ago I bought a used 2008 Toyota Corolla S with 10,000 miles. It now has about 16000 miles and I just did my 2nd oil change, and I noticed little metal particles in the old oil once I drained it.

I use Valvoline 5w-30 which is what Toyota recommends and I use Purolator oil filters. Toyota says to change the oil every 5000 miles, but I always change it on all my cars every 3000 miles. It wasn't a lot of metal but enough that I noticed it once I poured it out into my milk gallon to take it to Kragen to get it recycled.

Is a little metal in the oil normal on such a new engine? Or should I be worried that something could be starting to go wrong? Shouldn't the oil filter catch these metal particles? Should I be doing something different? Thanks for any help.
