A while back the steering in my Pontiac G6 started going stupid. I'd be driving down the road, and it felt like there was something causing the wheel to try to "fight" with me- but it wasn't that bad. The other day I start it up and start driving and it did the same thing, only much, MUCH worse- while driving the wheel will try to "steer" itself from left to right. I have to fight with it to keep it between the lines on the road. The steering wheel will even move from left to right (with no effort from myself) while stopped at red lights! I've been trying to do some research online, but nothing that specifically states what this problem is. There are no lights flashing on the dash, and nothing has come across the screen at the radio. Someone mentioned a possible rack and pinion problem, but I have no idea! Anyone else have this problem, or know what it is?
The car is no longer under warranty, but thankfully I have a cheap, generous, mechanic brother.
1. It's that electronic assisted steering or whatever you call it, so there is no fluid reservoir.
2. I have no trouble making turns. Amazingly, it doesn't fight with me when I'm turning, but that's about the only time.
