2008 1098 substitution

placed mine a couple weeks ago. March 14th. They should arrive in 2-3 weeks.

If you need one in Red Standard, try Kissler Motorsports in States College, PA. Talk to Robin. I have talked to her yesterday(March 27th) and she still has 2 left.

Scottie Jay,

i'm not sure any of us are getting the straight scoop on allocations. my buddy and i both ordered base models back in early october. (#1 and 2) at martin eurosports. my buddy's base model arrived about three weeks ago. a week later my salesman, Kevin, (a great guy who strikes me as a straight shooter), called me. when i saw the incoming call I figured my base was in. It wasn't, but Kevin told me he had an "extra" "S" and asked me if i wanted to upgrade. I did. But i was curious, how was it he had an extra "S"? Kevin told me that at the 1098 unveiling party they took a bunch of orders for '08s, and submitted those orders to ducati. per Kevin, ducati then filled one of these orders almost immediately with an '07 1098S! Since the buyer who had ordered the '08 "S" was not yet ready to take delivery, Kevin offered it to me.

Ducati filled an order for an '08 "S" w/ an extra '07 "S"? If this were Honda or GM, I'd say, "no way! doesn't make sense!" but we're dealing w/ ducati. I'm not at all confident that they're as organized as other manufacturers when it comes to this whole allocation thing. Ducati is clearly filling existing orders. but now, "extra" bikes are starting to pop up. canceled orders? certainly some. extra production? who knows? my sense is that the dealerships don't know exactly how many '07 bikes they'll get.

I wouldn't be surprised if lots of people who originally ordered an '08 are subsequently offered a previously unavailable '07. If Ducati can build them now, they will. We'll see.

About 2 weeks back I put a deposit down for a 1098S at the dealer in Roswell, GA. He said he had an allocation for 1 S and 2 base models. The dealer in Atlanta told me he had something similar. They both said they would definitely be 2007 models. I talked to my dealer today and he said there was one guy in front of me and he was considering giving up his spot, so mine may be the next one in. He expects it sometime in April.

This is what Ive heard.... I dont think any dealers got the number of bikes they were hoping to get. However, any dealer that placed an order was informed by DNA the number of bikes they would be getting. Some of the largest dealers in the country only got about 2/3 to 1/2 of what they ordered. Samller shops didnt fair to weel and some got less than half of their original order. I placed my order back at the beginning of March for an S. I think it was the second to last S availeble at the dealer and they didnt have anymore base models. I am geting an 07 and the only thing that the dealer is saying about the 08's is that they will be slightly more expensive (about $1500) and they have NO IDEA on availability but presumes next Novemeber.

are 1098s really that hard to find? I've already seen a few running around my town and I was at the one of my local ducati dealers in NYC the other day and they had 2 on the floor, although both were sold I didn't realize these bikes were in such demand.

I guess I really got lucky. I ordered my 1098S from Arlen Ness (Bruce Rossmeyer's) in Daytona during Bike week on March 3rd and it was in and ready for me during the last week of March. I was out of town and picked it up on the 2nd of April. Decent dealer, nice delivery. I live in Miami so I had my full Termi system installed at Ducati Miami and they took great care of me too. The 600 mile service is next week.....
