2007 Kawasaki ninja 250r vs other sport bikes?

I do love the kawasaki, but I want to know about other similar sport bikes. Bikes that also have small engines, but can still handle a highway. Please don't sudgest the 500r or 600r, or anything more powerfull than the 250. I'm 15, and this would be my first bike, so I want something I can afford to insure.I want the ninja right now, but I want to know if their are any cheaper bikes that still compare with it? The ones I'm looking at are 2007 red for $1500obo, or Unknown date(but good condition)red, $1350obo. Both look to be in good condition. The 2007 has 4700 miles, the other has unknown. Either way, I'd ask questions, take it for a test drive, and offer $200-$300 lower, then go from there. Thanks for any and all advice/experience.

By the way, is it hard to live with the 2007, because no fuel gauge, or is it ok? And if it's bad, is there any way to get a fuel gauge for a bike that doesn't have one?

That Ninja is a good bike for a 15 year old. You'll get bored with that pretty quick. You'll be getting a 650 in a year or so.

The 250 is very light and borderline dangerous on the interstate. They are pretty fast though. The fairings they put on them 250's now can just about fool most people in to thinking it's a 650 or bigger.
