2007 Honda VTX 1300R to 2011 Road King...learning curve? Metric riders?

I went from a vtx 1300 to a ultra classic electra glide. The harley is much taller than the vtx, puts off a lot more heat and rides so superior it makes the honda feel like a skateboard. mileage is considerabily better on the harley, and all the bells and whistles on an vtx compared to an ultra it's like comparing a vcr to a blu-ray player. I doubt very seriiously that i ever go back to metic. True, they are less expensive but they are also much more cheaply made. good luck on your decision.

I go back and forth from a rice rocket, a UJM ( jap standard) and a Electraglide, so 2 rice bikes and a HD, and it's like driving different cars, once you know where all the bells and whistles are you won't even think twice about it.

after 100 miles and reading the owners manual you'll be fine.

Thanks guys, like I mentioned before, learing curve was a poor choice of words....should have been more like what have you noticed different on your HD vs the metric bike you came from.

So far it looks like the biggest differences are:

Weight
Signals
Heat
Kick stand
Handles better

Those all seem pretty easy to adapt to....and yes when I went from my CBR to the VTX it was a bigger change for sure lol....a change to cruisers which has finally made it to my first HD.

Hopefully wil be placing order today....was told lead time for delivery will be in December...when I questioned why so late she said that order needs to be placed and that is HD's lead time on bikes special ordered...does that sound right?

Pretty excited for sure...2011 Sedona Orange Road King with Security, ABS and cruise with 5 year extended warranty for 18,437.00. And they can deliever to the HD dealer 5 minutes down the road. I inquired at that dealer if he could do anything at that price and he said I should buy it from military sales as it is really good deal he can't touch.

In any event thank you for the info guys, it has been very helpful

I used to ride a Valkyrie....and now a Road Glide.
I now have less money in my wallet and bank account, thanks
to all these people on here.

you will have no issues making the change........good luck and enjoy

I have a 1300 VTX and an Ultra. Ride the VTX to work as it is lighter, easier to manuever and has the water cooling for sitting in traffic.

Most everything was covered already but as I switch back and forth, I notice the Ultra handles A lot better in the corners, rides like it's on a rail.
Also a soother ride, even though I have progressive shocks all the way around on the VTX, the air ride on the Ultra is nice.

Only problem I have now is clothing, sometimes I forget I am wearing Harley stuff and ride the VTX, this usually gets some stares from those that know bikes. I just say "Yeah, I have a HD too"

BTW, When I was deployed I ordered a new bike through AAFES, came home, found a dealer that would give me the same deal for the same bike so I bought local and cancelled my order and got my deposit back. It was good timing, the 2010's just came out so they were dealing on the 2009's.

yeah, I'm on the opposite end of that though...buying a 2011 as soon as they come out lol

Did you do any financing through Aafees or were you just going to pay cash at dealer?

I thought bike had to be paid in full (cash or loan) prior to dealer releasing bike to you. My dealer said he cannot touch the price I'm getting

There was alot to get used to switching from a Moto Guzzi to a Harley, but that's only because the engine sits in the frame completely different.
