2007 Golden Globes - Discussion

I agree with Dream, Djimon in Blood Diamond was really good.

Also disappointed to see no Edward Norton anywhere....The illusionist was a great movie and I am hearing good things for the Painted Veil....

I thought Babel was an interesting movie, but not fabulous...actually most of those movies listed were good, but not great...ie....Flags and Departed.

also, think Nick cage should have been nominated for World Trade Center.

on the tv side, again no Lauren G, figures....and no Friday Night Lights. That is really sad. the show and Kyle Chandler deserved nominations

I loved Hugh Lauries speech, I dont watch house but watching his speech just made me so happy, he was amazing, Meryls speech was nice as well, I was surprised when they didnt let I think it was the writer of 'The Queen' say his speech because it got a bit political but then they let a few speeches go on for hours and hours it seemed.

Crash DID deserve it...that movie was the best movie of the year, it was so deep

Beyonce couldn't be more overrated. If she gets an Oscar nod the Oscars have defenetly became a joke. Last year they played safe giving best movie to a movie that didn't deserve it so for me they have lost most of their credibility. I like the Golden Globes more. The stars are more relax and they usually are fair giving awards.

I don't think Beyonce will win in her category. I'm surprised she even got a nom. I like Beyonce and from what I hear she does a decent job in the movie but I don't know..........I'm not sure about the nom at all. Especially when I think of some great performances this year by other actresses. But, I haven't seen the movie yet, so I will wait to comment further until I see the movie.

:sigh: :)

Great to see the route these two took after Titanic.

My favorite part of the GG was seeing Forest Whitaker win... I mean with all the talk that he'll win and all those critic award shows he won, I was thinking that he has a speech prepared already for the GG. You can see he was completely overwhelmed. I love it because the speech felt sincere and real.

Is Dreamgirls really that great of a movie or has it just been cosumed from all the hype and press it's received? Beyonce being in the movie somewhat makes me hesitant to watch it.
I guess Leo had bad luck with being nominated twice. A lot of people were saying he cancelled himself out that. Forrest Whitaker looked like he was in shock when he won and gave his speech. It's great to see a fellow Texan win. Is that Last King of Scottland pretty good?
I was suprised that Babel won best picture. I thought The Departed deserved it and more love last night. I wonder if Martin Scorsese will finally get his Oscar this year.

Yes that does seem to be the case, play a dead person and you get an oscar! So that means Leos out of the running and award goes to either Will Smith or Lawrence! Theres no point in watching now! :D

There is only one theatre in my country that shows foreign movies and that in Tehran where Im not! and the weird thing is that all the dvds are there as well, so I have to make a list everytime we go there like once every few months of the movies I want! They do have them here as well but the quality is very poor. Besides I think the theatre is showing 'The Aviator' now, so you can see how up-to-date we are! The TV shows newer movies but they are censored and with persian language!
Most people here would much rather watch a Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan or Jean Cluad Van-Damme movie than a movie like Departed or Babel, there really arent that many movie fans in my city!

The main reason why I enjoyed Collateral was because Tom Cruise played a bad guy. I know he's somewhat crazy in real life but he's a talented actor. Cruise definately made Collateral a good movie. Collateral is a slow action movie? How many people did Tom Cruise kill in that movie?
Miami Vice was just a disaster waiting to happen. Michael Mann should have never messed with that.

Hello! The GGs are like 35 minutes away so I thought we could discuss the pre show and the show here. :)

Anyway, everyones looking amazing.... I hope the show is great as well.

I haven't seen Blood Diamond but I bet that Djimon Hounsou will probably get an Oscar nod. I thought that Christian Bale should have been nominated when he was Batman but he wasn't.

The movies have been screened by the foreign press and various critics, etc.

No nomination for Djimon in Blood Diamond. That's kind of sad.

First off, Jamie Foxx should have won the oscar for Collateral not for Ray. I would have picked Don Cheadle or Leo DiCaprio over Foxx for best actor.
I think it was in 1999 that Denzel Washington was nominated for The Hurricane but he didn't win. He lost to Kevin Spacey. Denzel should have won over Spacey but it didn't happen.

I don't think that the gay part is what will only be remembered from that film. But that debate is for a different thread all together I suppose.

I'm so thrilled for Ugly Betty!! :slinkie:

I was surprised that Steve Carrell didn't win, even though I don't watch either show.

OMG, I'm so totally crying! Darn it, America, you made me cry!!! Oh my... She's so gorgeous and a brilliant actress!

I was so happy when Charlie made Emilio stand up. That was such an amazing brother moment! Cheers to them.

Oh I forgot about Meryl's speech! When she pulled those pieces of paper out and she told the person in the audience to shut up because it wasn't that long was fantastic! And I agreed with Meryl completely about going to your theatre and demanding (nicely) that they start showing the better smaller movies.

Oh is he the guy who directed 'The Island' that was a rubbish movie, he could have done so much more with that kind of a story, the story was genius but he really messed it up, he is nowhere near being gods gift to film making.

I would still recommend The Departed. I HATE Jack and yet--in this movie, he didn't bother me at all. I can't stand mob/gangster movies and I love this one. It's just executed really well and like I said before the acting is insane.

Let's discuss Beyonce's nomination. What do you think her chances will be come Oscar.

I personally have not seen the film as of yet--but everything I've seen of it she doesn't look that impressive. I think they may have just been trying to fill out the category, and just nominated her. I won't completely judge it until I see the movie but---I mean I've seen her acting in other films, I just don't see how she could have gotten any acting talent over the course of a year or whatnot.
