2007 Chevrolet Equinox tire pressure monitor problem after rim switch?

I've just switched over to winter tires (exact same size as original Bridgestone Duelers) on a new set of winter rims. The tire pressure monitoring system alerted me that there was a problem: it couldn't read the new tire pressures. I initiated the "learn" feature, but to no avail. Is there a way to "introduce" the system to the new rims/tires, or is there a sensor in the original rims that the system can't work without? I can't be the first person who's switched to winter tires/rims...

Any help would b greatly appreciated.
