I'm glad Ryan Gosling and Forest got nominated, surprised about water though, I thought it was average.
 
I hope Cars, The Prestige and Alfonso Cuaron all win in their respective categories they are nominated for.
 
Eddie was excellent.


The oscars were great. I really enjoyed them. Ellen was a great host.

Forest had an excellent speech. Marty finally won!
 
I'm so psyched for the Little Miss Sunshine nods, you have no idea. I can't believe they nominated Abigail Breslin! Don't get me wrong, she totally deserves it, they just don't usually nominate children. Go Abbie! :yay:
 
Go The Departed and Marty!! :D So happy.

Also, glad for Alan Arkin even if I would of nodded Steve Carrell over him. I would been happy with anyone winning that category except Eddie Murphy which thankfully he didn't. Also, glad that Little Miss Sunshine picked up Original Screenplay.

I thought Ellen was pretty great host, but she didn't get that much to do. Loved her with Clint and Marty though.

Overall, a pretty dull night, but I was entertain none the less. I predicted 15/24 correctly.

I don't really have an opinion on Best Actress. I would love it if Kate Winslet won though.

Don't worry tao I also couldn't stand Dream Girls and I wasn't impressed with The Queen :yawn:
 
I was happy to see Abigail Breslin nominated :) And "Water" to be nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.

Other than that...not a whole lot to be excited about. Im not on the Dreamgirls bandwagon..I dont really see the appeal, but whatever. Im glad it wasnt nominated for best picture and that "Little Miss Sunshine" managed to squeak in :) I also think Forest Whitaker has a lock on the Best actor.

I was surprised Will Smith managed to get a nod. Not that he wasnt great...just kinda expected him to be overlooked for some reason. Huh.
 
The speeches were both nice, I kind of preferred Forests speech at the GGs, when he was in awe and didnt know what to say! :D
I also liked how Marty asked them to check the envelope but I dont remember the rest of his speech well!
 
tao - You're not. I liked Dreamgirls but mostly for the music and Jennifer Hudson.

I know that it's been talked out all ready but I just read the comment about people on the board being racist. I know I am one of the people on this board who vehemently wanted Eddie and Jennifer to lose but for people to think it's because they're black is completely ridiculous! I cried with Halle Berry when she won her Oscar. I was also rooting for Forest even though I thought he was in the wrong category. Dreamgirls could have been a great film but it hit the wrong note over and over again. Jennifer was the best thing in that movie but to say that her performance was Oscar worthy is going a bit far. After seeing all the performances and talking it over with fellow film students I concluded that the other four actresses in Jennifer's category where just better then her in their respective films. I take so much offense by you coming in here and basically calling people racist. That's just rude and uncalled for and obviously a false accusation. I'd go as far as saying you owe us an apology but I know it'll never happen.
 
:clap: Forest's speech had me crying at the end of it. I LOVED it. I loved how they showed people in the audience it showed that everyone loved it too.

Leo's standing O to Forest was very humble. I mean he really wanted to win and yet he lost again and he's still being so adult about it. Unlike that punk Eddie Murphy:rolleyes:
 
I remember watching the show last night with my mum and after William Monahan won for the departed script me and my mum were scared he was going to drop dead of a heart attack backstage...
 
I was really shocked that Alan Arkin won best supproting actor I hadf to stop myself gasping very loud cause everyone else was sleeping! I was rooting for Mark and even though I loved LMS, Alan was my least favourite actor out of all of them!

Great that Marty and the Departed won, soooo upset that Leo didnt but theres always next year, I loved hoe they kept referring to him and showing him and the producers thanking him, it was nice.

Ellen did a great job, she was funny and I loved the parts with Clint and Marty and Steven Spielberg. I also loved the three direwctors giving the best director award, Goerge Lucas was funny!

The dancers were cool, the song by Will Ferrel and .. was nice too, as was the Dreamgirls performnace, extremely shocked the songs didnt win though! I wasnt too fond of Jennifer Hudson singing Listen, I thought she was a bit too loud and thats more of a delicate song!

My favourite part this year and all the other years, was the part were they show the people who have died, its a very touching part and it was great to see everyone honour Rbert Altman like that, I got very emotional even though I wasnt a huge fan of his!
 
I heard that Murphy wasn't set to perform in the first place...he wasn't on the list of performers...:shrug:

Ever since the airing of nominations for "Short Live Action Films," I've been really antsy. I NEED to see West Bank Story. If anyone knows of where to find it online...please tell. It's driving me nuts. It looks so incredibly cool.

Re: Hudson winning.. I was glad she did. While this IS a show that acknowledges fantastic performances in acting, acting doesn't have to be cut down to ONLY the delivery of monologues. Acting is about believingly conveying a character on screen, and filling the character with energy, (believability), and emotion. Though most of J.Hud's work wasn't delivering monologues of lines that show how well she can talk-act, her performance, IMO, was everything that a win (or nomination) for an Oscar is:
She showed passion, incredibly strong emotions, of various kinds, throughout that film. Some songs showed her character's attitude and strength, while others showed her desperation and vulnerability, and others showed her character's desire for a second chance, for forgiveness.

I was in awe of her performace in Dreamgirls. It is not everyday that you see a person who can fill a character on-screen with such power that she did. She has real presence. I don't expect her to pursue acting as a career, as I have no idea if she has much acting talent in delivering lines of dialogue while showing off a character. It was almost luck that the character of Effie was exactly the kind of character that J. Hudson would fill perfectly--the role of a singer (not just because she sings, also because you can believe that she's a singer by how she acts when she's NOT singing. I don't know if she could play a non-singer character as well.

She deserved the Oscar IMO. But I have a feeling, that while this is the beginning of her career, the hype is going to wear off eventually. She deserved her 15+ minutes of fame. Now she'll go off, make a record, get some sales, etc...like any other singer in the industry. And other unknowns will get their spotlight.

I know that the Oscar won't go to him personally but I think I'll die if Al Gore wins an Oscar :thud:
