this year has been a letdown for horror i think

last year the major horrors we had were
hostel-hills have eyes-silent hill-saw3-TCMthebegining-grudge2 and more LOVED ALL THEM EXCEPT grudge2

this year the major ones we had were very disapointing so far
hills2-hostel2-1408-halloween-DIDT LIKE THEM

i liked a few of them thou DISTURBIA VACANCY AND HITCHER

hopfully SAW4 which is the major horror movie for this last half of the year will be good but i have my doubts

Really agree on Hostel 2,THAE.

Thought The Hitcher was a discrace to the brilliant original.

Loved Halloween (workprint),Best Halloween movie for me since part 4.

I feel Saw 4 will be another step down hill for that increasingly ludicrous franchise.

So dissapointing overall I guess.

Agreed - Halloween Workprint has been the best horror this year easily.

I came across a 2006 horror that slipped through the net the other day called "Tamara" well worth a watch if you can find it anywhere - its abit like Carrie v The Craft.

Forget Saw IV - torture porn is so over. Hostel 2 was acutally the best of all the torture flicks IMO.
What about The Signal , 30 Days Of Night, The Mist to name but a few?

I actually enjoyed Hostel 2.I thought it was far better than Hostel

Captivity was awful

Vacancy was an alright film

Disturbia i did enjoy

I saw Rob Zombies "Halloween" workprint version & i wasn't that impressed by it.I hated the way they portrayed Michael's family background.I thought the rape scene was uncalled for & personally it made me feel uneasy. It's a scene in my view they could have done without.I thought the editing was dodgy at times & the ending
reminded me of the end of H4 where the cops gun down Michale (minus the mineshaft)

Hostel 2 did not work for me maybe because I expected a straight up straight up sick, disturbing horror.
Was it a cheesy horror,a mock up of the original and so called torture porn,a comedic satire or a dark nihilistic horror.
Even way it didnt work on any level for me and the dialogue was way too dumb and characters the most cartoonish villains imaginable. Just not consistent enough to keep changing the feel in the way of i.e Dawn Of The Dead (1978).

I love the premise though.

Bump.

I agree. 2007 has had the most unimaginative horror films ever. It's a tired format, I can predict all horror films, but I can't help but watch them because of the trailers! All horror films are well advertised, but when it gets down to the actual picture;

they are a bore. They run for 80 minutes, one or two memorable creepy images, but the rest is pure boredom. Dead Silence, The Messengers, The Hitcher, Vacancy, all looked promising, and turned out to be crap. The only horror film I liked this year was 'Hostel 2'. I haven't seen 'Saw 4' yet, I have 'Captivity' waiting downstairs, but I have a feeling it'll be rubbish. The only other horror film I remember that looked promising was 'I Know Who Killed Me', stopped watching after 20 minutes.

Disappointed. :(

The Saw franchise has run it's course, I won't be watching any further sequels. I had to be talked into viewing the fourth to be honest. I figured out the 'great' twist in part four within 30 minutes, as I did II and III.

As for it's shock value; It no longer has any. Simple as that.

"Been there, done that, seen it all before" comes to mind. The original isn't a bad film (not at all), but it's painfully overrated.

Let's just say "It's not in my top 20 favourite horror films".

I thought both Hostel films were dire. When you've seen as many horror films as I have, extreme gore is about as boring as watching paint dry if the film itself is devoid of an actual decent story, which both Hostel films clearly are. I have no interest in watching a third film either.

That was one of the things I really didn't like about them.

The gore was a little.......excessive. I'm a fan of horror, and extreme gore doesn't normally bother me, but something about these movies struck me as nasty, and somehow exploitative.
