I have a 2006 CTS-V that has a whining noise coming from the front of the engine. The noise gets louder with engine rpm increase. I positive it's one of the pulleys or accessories because the noise stops while running with the belt off. I used a mechanics stethoscope and the noise seems to be coming from the alternator.
If this is the problem, would I have to replace the whole alternator, or just the pulley? I'm thinking the whole alternator because the bearings are not on the pulley, but on the alternator itself.
Any help would be great, thanks guys.
