A very common failure is the electrical part on shifter called a micro switch. There is a pin that slides inside the shifter and it becomes dislodged and wont contact the switch to let the shifter lock and the key to turn to off so you can take key out.

My daughter's 2006 Aveo, the ignition key would not come out. was intermittent for a while , but now/ it's constant.. Temporary fix at this time is to disconnect the power by removing the IGN1 fuse to be able to remove the key....
Any idea? no safety/ neutral switch available to replace it.. dealers only i guess if the Aveo has one.

Thx dean, I have figured something like that might do it... how do I get to this micro switch? is it from the inside or under the hood?

any hint would be appreciate.
Thx
