2006 C50 ignition part number

Hey guys,

Does anyone know the part number for/where I can order an ignition kit for a 2006 C50? My ignition seems to have gone bad and the dealer is asking $600 to replace the ignition, the gas cap key, and the side body key. I just can't imagine that this is a reasonable cost for something that seems like it should be pretty simple to do.

Any thoughts on trying to do it myself? I'm pretty handy, or so I've been told ;)

Thanks in advance!

The dealer is going to install a complete replacement lock set, part number 37102-41880, about $260 from Suzuki. This is what you need if you want all your locks to still work off one key.
If you don't care that the ignition will have a different key, you can search online for motorcycle salvage yards and buy a used ignition switch cheap. Or you can get just the switch at the dealer for about $150- sorry, I don't have the part number handy.

Dr Bob... did I hear you correctly? (figurativly)

I just broke the little swing thingy off my 2007 c50 gas cap. If I want to get a new gas cap, where one key does all..... I have to replace all?

can that be?

You can buy just the gas cap, part number 44200-41810 (about $85), but the key won't match. Well, technicaly there is a small chance it will match, as there are a limited number of posible keys...but you get my point. But unlike the ignition switch, the gas cap has a removable lock, so you can PROBABLY swap the existing lock over to the new cap so it uses the same key. I say probably, because I have never actually taken the cas cap apart on a C50.

37100-41F70 is the part number for just the ignition switch. Mine went out also while I was about 300 miles from the house. Had to hot wire bike to get it home. Mine also is a '06 C50...

Looks to be about $102.50 from Boulevardsuzuki.com but don't know if they stock them. I'm calling stealer tomorrow to see how much Vaseline I should bring with me to go in and purchase it...and they have to order it...

I melted the ignigtion switch on my M50. It cost me $279.00 installed from my local Mechanic. I think he charged about $110.00 for the switch. I didn't care because I didn't want to change it. I just did the switch becuase I didn't want to pay for the other locks it wasn't worth it to me. Did you guys have a light bar pluged into the extra plug in the accesory outlet? Thats what caused mine to die.

Light bar is the issue on mine also. Put the light bar on a relay, use the headlight wire, the one on the corner of the harness, to trigger the light bar. That way, when you turn on the starter, the lights go out first. Now to the switch. If you can find a used one, take the back cover off and remove the white thingy (to use someone elses term above). You will need a security screwdriver, from Harbor Freight or somewhere, maybe Sears, to do it. Take the seats off, remove the tank bolt. Slide the tank back a few inches (not so far you pull the wire out of the fuel pump, I speak from experience) and take off the left neck cover. Underneath is a heavy wire guard with a bolt in it. Remove the bolt and brace. That will leave a handful of wires and cables. Use a screwdriver to lift them out of the way carefully, and remove the back of your switch. replace the thingy and test. I think those with carbs do not have the problem (if they do not add anymore than a light bar for load). When Suzuki went Fuel Injection, they did not beef up the switch, is my guess, and with the bar AND the FI, it overloaded the switch. I thinks Suzuki should admit the problem and take care of us.

Oh yeah, I forgot, the treads on the screws holding the switch to the bike are between the front cyclinder head and the Frame, so you have to go at them with a ratchet to get to them. They put them on with Red Locktite, I am told, so it is a real pisser to get them off with out stripping them. That is why I am suggesting try replacing the white thingy first. See above post. If that works, you are done, if not, you can still change the switch. Also, there should be a way to get a locksmith to put your old lock barrel into your new Ignition switch, for a small fee.

Good News, the 2005 Suzuki C50 Switch is different (of course from the 2004s and below) than the 2006 and above. 2005 part number 37100-41F50 $87.75, and the 2006 and up part number is 37100-41F70 $102.50. 10 bucks shipping from Deland, FL to California. They don't keep these in stock at Boulevardsuzuki.com, they get them from Suzuki in Atlanta, so it may take a week or more to get it. (800) 595-5068. The complete lock kit runs about 200.00. You may be able to get the other locks changed to fit the ignition key, most only use part of the key, not the whole key, they are not as deep as the ignition, or just put up with two different keys. Again, you might take your new ignition and our old key to a locksmith and see if he can fix the lock in the Ignition to fit your old key before you install the new ignition.
