2006 c50 chec engine warning

Have a 2006 C50 black. Symptoms are: My "chec" engine warning comes on intermittently during riding, seems to be load dependent. It is at the shop now, but they are having problems diagnosing due to the fact that no codes are showing/pulling from the bike when they try to pull the codes. They have replicated (ie: seen for themselves) the issue, but seem stumped. Any ideas? No changes in engine performance or ridability when the "chec" shows on the display.

Hmmm...anyone ever experienced this?

Thanks!

Just had a 2 week episode getting my bike fixed when the FI light comes on.

Intermittent codes are the worst to fix, because you can never be sure you got the problem licked.
Not like a mechanical bit - broken or not. Electrical bits can work MOST of the time. Then fail - sometimes.

Have they told you what codes are showing? I can post up a list of the check codes if this is of assistance.

Yep - got my bike back - a bad day riding in the rain is better than a good day in the car!

Just got back from actually talking to the mechanic working on my bike at my local dealership. What a breath of fresh air, as he actually took me to the lift where my bike was sitting, and explained what had happend. The "chec" engine coming on intermittently during riding, but then not showing any "codes" was due to a design flaw in certain production of the C50, which allowed RF (radio interference, from the coils and other electrical bits) to affect the communication that runs in a wire (which is on the outside of the harness and not wlel insulated) between the Fuel injector and the onboard computer. When these 2 lose communication for anything more than 3 seconds, the chec warning comes on. The tech said his memory had been jogged when he had called the Susuki tech line to get some help on why there where no codes and he showed me a booklet with this info in it from a Susuki mechanics seminar he had attended. The fix is a better, stronger insulated wire that is to replace the wire in question, which is being shipped and paid for under my (thankfully) extended warranty. I think this is the same fix that the other posts had talked about when talking about a fix for the chec problem that their fix had been replacing the wire harness. It is not neccesary to replace the whole harness, but only one section of it.

On another note, I had placed an aftermarket tach on my bike. The tech advised me to remove it altogether, as they have had some performance prolems with bikes that have them installed. The tach hooks up to your coil wires, and has a ground wire that runs from one coil to the other as well. From what they showed and told me, the drain and the RF from these tachs can cause some performace issues with the bike, and they HIGHLY recommend not installing them....

Well, I hope this helps...sure gives me piece of mind when the tech takes me through what he is doing, and explains it to me. They have a well satisifed customer. Well, at least that specific tech does...

Could you please tell what caused FI light to come on? What was the fix? I've had FI light on 2 times in the past 2 weeks. It goes away when I shut down the engine and start it again.

Mine has done it a few times. I was riding it in the Alabama heat when it happened. The image only flashed and did not stay on. Nothing else has happened and fluid levels are good so I would not sweat it. I have seen it on other posts, other folks have said this happens in the heat. But is not causing any problems.

You have a little different situation. If you have to shut it off to make the light go out, they should be able to retrieve a code......and duplicate the problem.

Hmmmm......do you not think that might be a slightly different situation??

Maybe a tach DESIGNED for the vehicle at the factory just MIGHT work differently than a "universal" one added later ???

Having said that, I think he was "crying wolf". I'm sure a lot of riders have them installed and they never cause a problem. It IS good information to have but I think I'd leave it alone unless it really causes a problem. :bluethum:

I had a chrome radiator cover that blocked too much air. I got rid of it and put on one with just a screen in from of the radiator in a chrome frame. Now, before you install it, the screen is only tack welded to the frame. So I mixed some JB Weld and applied it to the outside edge of the screen to hold it to the frame.
