I bought my 05' Pontiac Sunfire 4 years ago brand new and within about 3 years, 3 different lug nut studs have broken on the same tire, (the front left). I took it in to the mechanic and they said that the manufacturer makes the studs weak, so they will eventually break off? Is that true or are they just trying to make me pay for the lugnuts they broke off?
Forgot to mention too, when I bought the car, the dealership had 18" crome rims on it so maybe the rim on the front left made the studs bad? When I changed the tires, we did have trouble getting the lug nuts off and that is when the first stud broke because the lug was on way too tight or something. But even with the stock tires on, two more studs still broke.

Ive never heard Gm making lugs that break, although I would nt doubt but it. Your car doesnt produce enuff torque to put that much pressure on the wheels, my guess is bolts were loose and the hole in the rims egged out..out of round causing vibration and then shearing the lugs off. Have your rims inspected for abnormal wear..

its true that vehicle are made to eventually break down so that you have to buy parts....I believe that to be true. But this sounds different. You may have a problem with suspension on that wheel or you may be turning the vehicle to hars or fast when turning right and putting to much stress on those lugs. try takin it easy on that gas pedal and enjoy the drive. its not a race
