2005 Grand Prix Whining Noise From Engine. Any Suggestions?

Say you just started the engine. Let it heat up for a couple minutes. Hit the gas and you're at a stop. Light turns green, you accelerate hard and all of a sudden, you hear a whining noise from the engine. The pitch gets louder when you're going fast and softens when you slow down. WHAT UP WITH THAT. TALK TO ME.
 
Alternator is the problem. You don't necessarily have to replace it right away but internally it's starting to fail.
