2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Power Steering Pump?

2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. 4.7 V8. 4x4. I just got a new water pump, and when putting on the pulley I noticed that on the part that goes flush against motor there is a little chip out of it, and i can see a metal rod that moves when i push and pull on the pulley. Now is that normal for that chip to be there? or did I fuck it up putting on the pulley?. Thanks
