this guy is selling a 2005 dodge neon for $7,000 and i have asked him to lower the price. is $4,000 sound like a good offer? it has 47,703 miles.

Definitely not.
I own a 2005 Dodge Neon Sxt with 62,000 miles on it, and even with 23,000 more miles, mine is worth way more than 4,000.
Unless he did not keep it in good shape, Mine looks brand new still so that would definitely come into the picture.
I would say if it was in good shape ( and depending on the age of the tires ) that I would offer 5,100 - 6,000

a good average price on that car right now would be around 5500 bucks and that's with the low miles on it,he,s asking to much for it,but he priced it high so he could come down if needed, don't offer no more than 5500 on it and have it checked out real good ,and run a car fax report on it to make sure it hasn't ever been in a bad accident, other wise if you can purchase it for around 5500 or less, buy it,good luck.

If he sold it to you for $4000 he would be selling the car for below trade in at a dealership. The basemodel version of that car is worth $6350

The fully loaded version of that car (not the SRT-4) is worth $7250

Why would he sell it to you for $4000? If you do not have the money to buy it for what he wants, somebody else out there does.

Take that money you have, and buy a used Corolla or Civic.

Neon's are notoriously problematic, and costly to fix. Stay away from it, really.
