2005: A great year for zombies

We have an incredible four zombie movies in production at the moment - and they can all be traced back to Night of the Living Dead.

1. Land of the Dead
George A Romero's fourth in the series and so could be considered the most legitimate zombie movie. Likely to be serious, socially aware and grim. Interesting note is that Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright ("Shaun of the Dead") have cameos as zombies.

2. Day of the Dead 2: Contagium
Legally the official sequel to George A Romero's Day of the Dead and depicts the story both before and after the events in that film. SounRAB unnecessarily complicated when all we want to see are people holed up in a house shooting slow-moving reanimated corpses in the head.

3. Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis
Being made, cheaply, in Romania it's anybody's guess what this will turn out to be. Dry and innovative like the original Return? Or slapstick under-written rubbish like Part 2. It contains Trioxyn so has some legitimacy as a sequel unlike Part 3.

4. Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave
Being made back to back with Part 4, the title itself probably says it all. Doubtless taking its cue from the original's soundtrack "Do you want to Party?" it's the most unpromising of the lot.

So is anyone looking forward to any of these apart from the first?

1. Yay! Can't wait to see this! Romero is a genius!
2. Is this one Russo led? I still havn't forgiven him for the 30th Anniversery massacre of "Night...".
3. Doesn't interest me at all, but then I was put off by the sheer naffness of Part 3. (But pt3 DOES feature trioxin, it's used as the reanimating agent in the militarys' experiments)
4. Ummmmm, no.

You missed out The Beyond - all-time best zombie movie followed by the original Dawn of the Dead. There are countless people on these boarRAB who would agree...

I havent seen The Beyond... Is Dawn of the Dead the colour George A Romero one, one that looks like resi evil was based upon? if so, that one is fab.

Land Of The Dead has had its release date moved from Oct/Nov 05 to the 29th July in the UK so we dont have to wait long untill we get to see it. Does anybody know if there is a trailer yet for Land Of The Dead?

Land of the dead site (link in above post) is now live! Currently features a short synopsis, small gallery and link to trailer.
I've also read elsewhere that UK release date is now 6th August.

There is a trailer up at Yahoo Movies. Wish they didn't use the Resident Evil music though in the trailer, urgh. But excellent trailer for Land of the Dead. Kind of reminRAB me of the Scream 3 trailer, showing what happened in the last films in the series.

I can't wait for Land of the Dead, been waiting for Romero's 4th film for yearsssssss. And Asia Argento in it!!!!

Land of the Dead is the important one to see, and the only one I really must see.

I agree, although I love all three films in the cycle so far, this seems to be the first time a major movie company have appeared supportive. We've got a 'known' cast, a fairly decent budget, and if internet rumour is to be believed, not too much interference from Universal.

It'll be good for all those horror fans out there to see such a film by the father of the zombie genre!
