So I am looking to get my first motorcycle. I have been doing some research online, looking at other people's questions and answers. From what I have heard, it's risky to buy anything older than 10 years if you don't want to be doing a ton of work on it. I also have heard that for beginners, a good sized bike is around the 500cc or less range.

So I have been looking at Kawasaki Ninjas. I have looked up debates between the two, their pros and cons. From what I can tell, you can't really go wrong either way. So in ads I have come across two bikes that have interested me. A 2004 Kawasaki 250r and a 1997 Kawasaki EX500(Ninja 500). They both appear to be in good condition. I realize that actually riding these bikes it he best gauge to go by, but I would like to know what others think about the discrepancy in age of the bikes and which wey they think I should go on this. Both bikes are priced similarly.

You won't be riding these bikes more than a year so it really doesn't matter. You'll be so tired or it and ready for a 600, that it makes no difference which one.

Get the one you'll be able to get the most money from on resell. Go to a local motorcycle repair shop and pay the mechanic $50 to come check the bikes out with you and see what his PROFESSIONAL opinion is.

Well, they both handle about the same actually. THe 250 is slightly lighter, obviously, and it gets a little bit better gas mileage (by maybe 5 mpg or so)....I personally, unless you are rather short, or a girl, object to starting on a 250....I think a 500 is more practical. I started off on a Ninja ZX6R, and never had a problem. If you can handle it, I would say take the 500 because once you get the riding experience down, you will want to step up...There is a quite of a difference between a 250 and a 600+...I would say start with the 500, that way if you move up to like a 750 or 1000 or something, you have a better feel for its size and weight, than you would with a 250....
