There should be a snap so it will not open during driving or accident.
You should be able to go to a local Ford Dealer and get shown how to do it for free or give the tech a $5 bill.
Try a big car franchise maintence shop. I had a 1993 Civic CX and I took it to a Merlin's to check the brakes at 93,000 miles, he fixed the hood release. He said the brakes have a lot of life left. And I asked how much I owe him, and he said nothing, just come back when the brakes needed replacing.
I like looking a Chilton's manuals specific to my car make, model, and year. They have step by step instructions and pictures on do it yourself maintence. They also gave me ideas on how to fix or improve the car. Sadly in my state there was Track Auto that allowed me to use their photocopier to copy the chilton's manual on the proper way to fix the car, but Track went out of business.
