2004 ford explorer with only 70k miles motor locked up with no warning?

locked up huh? could be your temp sensor could have been bad and you may have overheated the engine or your oil pressure gauge was faulty and you somehow lost oil pressure.usually when either of those things happen you would get a warning.which would be a main bearing or a rod bearing.You would have heard that.If you were driving and it just shut off then it's one of your timing chains.You have 3 of them.And you will not like the bill that will cost you. or you could have also hit a bump big enough to trigger the fuel pump shutoff switch.It's call an inertia switch .you will have to look that up.as not all explorers have them in the same place.
I own a eddie bauer 2 door and mine is on the passenger side near the heater core
