2004 dodge stratus, having car problems when I hit 50 mph it makes like its choking.?

If I take my foot off the gas and then press the gas pedal it's fine. Sometime it starts sometime it doesn't. I've changed the spark plugs, my check engine light is on and has been for like a year. 85000 miles. Help, I'm really broke right now any suggestions? Thanks
