OK I hope someone can help or I am getting a priest to exorcise my Durango.
I just bought the Durango this month from a private party, and just got it on the road today because of delays with their bank getting me the title. Mind you I have had the vehicle for a month and have turn it on started it up, and drove it a little to the mailbox and back while waiting on the title since the 4th of august.
Today while I was at work I was informed just before I was leaving that my horn was blowing. I at first thought it was the alarm but they said it didn't sound like an alarm would, where it honks then stops and repeats over and over again, it was just blowing non stop. When I got outside I decided to test it by hitting my lock button on my key since i know it make the horn chime once. When I did this the horn went off and kept going, and going, and going.
I think got in and started it up and it went off, but I don't think starting it made it go off (further explanation later in story) because it went off about 1 second after I started it, not immediately.
Well I was hoping that starting made it stop and that I had just somehow been hitting the lock button in my pocket but I was too hopeful. I was waiting for a friend to get off work 5 minutes after me so I could give him a ride home, when he came out I tried to blow the horn at him but it didn't work at all.
On the way home I went to wal-mart and the horn went off and kept going WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 12:00 AT NIGHT, it then stopped about 20 or 30 seconds later. When I was walking into wal-mart the horn went off again and stayed going for another 20 or 30 seconds, i ignored it and acted like it wasn't my vehicle....
Since i was afraid of it going off i didn't lock it when i went inside wal-mart and when I came out I opened the door and guess what... It went off again and kept going until I started it and started to move, then it quit. When going home from wal-mart i was on the highway in a non populated area and tried my horn and it worked, i tried it again and it worked, then 3 seconds after that it went off on its own again. Again it went off 20 or 30 seconds later.
Finally I get home praying that it isn't going to go off when i get out because I am now IN a populated area with neighbors who are trying to sleep. Luckally it didn't go off when i opened my door.. but it did when I closed the door as I was walking into the house.
I woke up my dad and he just went outside and unhooked the horn relay so now the horn won't blow at all, even when it locks. I can live with this but I do need to get it fixed and would very much appreciate if anybody has any suggestions, other than just taking it to a garage.
