You need a spring compressor tool for McPherson struts to compress the spring so that the cartridge can be replaced. It can be dangerous work. You should also have the upper strut mount bearings changed at the same time for sure. Then, you should really have the front end realigned in many cases, so you might consider taking it to a good front end shop that will do the alignment as well.
