The check engine light is just the emissions. Usually it is corrected by tightening the gas cap. Always get 2 clicks when closing. It is rarely anything more serious.

I just bought a 2003 Cadillac CTS on Saturday (9/19/2009) and everything was fine. The car only has 78,000 miles. I said everything WAS because yesterday late at night I was heading home, I backed up from a drive way and my car turned off. The battery indicator came on, I didn’t panic and started the car and everything was fine. I put it on drive and the car because giving a hard shift when I braked. It sound like something in the trunk, I thought it was a box that I had there but it wasn’t, I took it to my house (3 miles away) and throughout the whole time it was making a hard downshift when I was braking, the check engine light came on but no message was displayed in the dashboard (cd player). I parked it in my driveway and turned off (then on) and the check engine light was still there. I took the car to work this morning and everything was going fine, no hard shifts or anything but the check engine light is still on. The dealer will take a look at the car in the next few days but before I take it in I wanted to know what it can possibly be, I don’t have enough money to get it fixed right now that’s why. :(

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! :(
