2002 Intruder

I have a 2002 Suzuki Intruder 800. I have been trying to start it. It turns over but will not start. I tried to warm it up buy putting a heater in the shead where it is stored but still will not start. Now before I put it away I changed the oil and filter but could no get any 10W 40 oil , So i used the next weight up. Would this cause a problem in it starting? I read somewhere that it might? Should I change the oil and use 10w 40?

A common problem with Intruder 800s is that the choke does not want to stay all the way out, making the bike hard to start. Pull the choke out as far as it will go, and let go. Does it pull back in at all? If it does, grab the rubber ring the choke comes out of and twist it as hard as you can clockwise. Now try it- the choke should stay put.
Pull the choke out completely, DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE as Intruders flood very easily, and hit the starter. The bike should fire up within a few seconds. It may stall once, but just fire it up again.
If it still will not fire, make sure the petcock in on, the tank had gas in it, and check to make sure no critters have nested in the exhaust pipe or air boxes. If everything is OK, pull a plug wire and check for a spark.
 
Ok did that but it still will not stay all the way out. I guess I will have to get someone to hold it out as I try to start it. But the battery is now down to low so I will have to charge it now.
 
A low/weak battery can sometimes never start a bike as well. Do what Dr. Bob says...there's a little black hard rubber thing around the choke "staff". Pull the choke out a little bit and you can see it easier. You can do this while off the bike. Twist that little black hard rubber thing clockwise as far as you can twist it. It "tightens up" the hold on the choke shaft.

I'm on my 3rd intruder (2nd for me, plus my wife rides one) and I've never had to have a 2nd person hold the choke out so I can start the bike.
 
Well I did that turned it clockwise as hard as could but the choke will not stay out for me. I will have to charge the battery now then try it again.
