It could be a sensor.
Definitly not the converter.

I would take it back to the shop and tell them that you had a tune up from them and now there's a check engine light on. At least then you'll get some free diagnostic work. DON"T let them charge you for diagnostic on a problem they probably caused.

today I took my (2002) taurus to the mechanic to do the tune up, and as soon after he finished, he told me my catalytic converter is gone bad. on my way home I felt rough idling and check engine light started to blink. (i never had any problems before the tuneup)
is it possible that there is a problem with the c.converter?
or is it the o2 sensor?
how much it's gonna cost to replace the c. converter?
(in higher speeds it runs great, but even after the tune up I feels like it's lacking power)

if it was me i would take it back to the shop and demand to get your money back or the problem fixed....sounds like your tune up wasnt very good....kinda sounds like they chop shopped you....its amazing how the check engine light comes on after the mechanic gets done with it....very possible that there is something wrong with the c.converter but with it running good at higher speeds i doubt it ....take it back and have them print out what codes pop up and make them tell you exsatly what they are before doing anything ....

take it back to them and tell them you didnt have that problem before you brought your car to them. they might be covering up something they did wrong
