I have a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 with almost 100,000 Miles on it.
Here lately it's started making a growling (grinding?) like sound when I crank it in the morning. It does this the entire time I'm idle. If I shut it off and crank it back it continues. Whenever I put it in reverse to back out it persist. But once I put it in 1st Gear and move forward it goes away. During the day, it doesn't do it again.
I recently had to replace the battery. The Advanced Auto Parts guy ran the diagnostics test on my battery and alternator and said the alternator was spiking and it would need replaced soon as well. Could this be it?
Any other ideas on where to look? Or any other information that you might need from me to answer this?
