2001 Toyota Celica GT front wheel squeak?

Just got a used '01 Celica GT about a month ago with 86k miles on it. Runs great, but for some reason, a rather loud squeak seems to be originating from the front driver-side wheel. It's proportionate to my speed, so as I accelerate, it gets faster, too. However, when I apply the brakes, it stops completely, no matter what speed I'm traveling. I had a friend who knows a decent amount about cars take a look at it, and he thinks it might have something to do with the brake pads - but he's not entirely sure. I've been trying to get my grandpa - a former mechanic - to take a look at it, but our schedules conflict, and we just haven't had the time. I've also scoured the internet, but I haven't been able to find anything. I'm a poor college student, so if the fix is costly, I may just have to live with it (which is completely fine - it's just annoying as hell, and slightly embarrassing). Thanks!
Edit: In response to ccourier512002, I hear neither of those you asked about. When I apply my brakes, it completely stops altogether, and I hear no squeaking of any kind. When I go faster, the squeak simply accelerates with my speed. I know what a bad wheel bearing sounds like, and this isn't it. The squeak comes in intervals, almost like it's on a certain part of the wheel/brake/etc. But thank you for your help!

I know you said it does squeaks. But do you also here a when you apply your brakes like a scrapping sound or metal against metal. If so it is time for a brake job. If not when you go faster does your car sound like a train. If it does it is time to replace the wheel bearings. One last thing and that is check your struts or shocks.
