My father-in-law's 2001 4cylinder Toyota Camry's transmission, with only 51,000 miles, would not engage into any of the forward gears...only reverse! It was replaced for over $4,000! What's up!? He's 90 years old and bought the veh new. He drives the vehicle a couple of times each day, and not hot rodding, I miight add. I've owned cars that never had transmission problems with near this low of mileage. I wonder if this is a viable consumer complaint?....Help!

If her paid 4 g's to have the transmission replaced find the paperwork and documents. The replaced transmission would have come with a warranty based on mileage and I'm sure your grandfather has not exceeded it.

Contact the shop, and in a nice tone explain the issue and what "they" suggest is the best course of action to have the unit replaced.

Not a big deal and transmissions fail, some more than others.

I have never had transmission problems...ever.

when was the transmission replaced? maybe there is a warranty? and where was the trans replaced? at a dealer? independent shop?
